Work Less Make More The counterintuitive approach to building a profitable business and a life you actually love James Schramko 9780648206002 Books Reviews

  • I purchased this book the second I saw it released. Listening to and following James has had a huge role on my success as an entrepreneur. Several years ago, while commuting several hours to a cubicle job I hated, I started listening to James' Freedom Ocean and SuperFast Business podcasts...I did this every day for almost 3 years - consumed hours and hours of strategies that worked. Kind of like a mobile MBA in online marketing. Each evening I came home and implement what James (and a few other great influencers) taught me. Slowly but surely, things started to happen...I started selling websites, got a few consulting clients and published my first online course...Before I knew it, I had enough income to quit my day job! I can't thank James enough, but this isn't about me Buy this book! What makes James unique is his "systems-based" approach to business. Not just making money, but creating LEVERAGE so you can disconnect your calendar from your income. This book is long overdue and will certainly help thousands of folks start down the path towards Working Less and Making More.
  • Why does this book get a lot of 5-star reviews? I wish I did not waste time buying and reading this book. Very basic information about Prioritization, Planning, Choosing & Setting Up Business. After buying it, I was expecting to learn some eye-opening trick or tip about how to optimize my time and increase my income, but nothing of such is in the book. He puts an emphasis on EHR (effective hourly rate) which is just a metric of how much you make divides by the number of hours you actually work. Why is this something new if you're already working in your full time job or on your own business? He also recommends recurring subscription model over other business models because of its recurring revenue and it is very obvious. The problem is that people don't know what to sell for recurring purchase and that is entirely up to the readers to find out and explore.

To sum it up, the book is quite elementary. I give it 2 stars because it is probably useful to novice entrepreneurs, but it nowhere deserves the many 5-stars that I have seen in the reviews.
  • I have listened to James' podcasts for several years, and he is the most down-to-earth, uncompromising figure in the space of internet marketing. Nothing gimmicky, hacky, or non-genuine - he is all about the long-game, adding value and being the best at what you do. This book has been a long time coming, I remember James mentioning it a few years ago, and I have looked forward to it ever since. I would challenge anyone to find a more approachable, contactable, genuine practitioner in this market sector. You'll find the contents of this book extremely actionable and practical as it is from James own experience and learnings. A great read, very easy to digest and Kelly has done a wonderful job editing and working with James to get this book out into the world. As cliched as it sounds, do yourself a favour; grab yourself a copy; and put the contents into action.
  • I've been a fan of James Schramko for a long time, starting with the Freedom Ocean podcast he used to do with Tim Reid. I have a note on my bulletin board where James recommends A) Build Content, B) There's No Silver Bullet, C) Turn Off the Gurus, D) Keep Learning and E) Shut Up and Get to Work. SIMPLE but great advice.

Who wouldn't want to work less and make more?

To do that requires leverage. To do that requires 644 effort, which helps us focus on the things that will help us achieve 64% of our goals. Without overwhelm.

For him, going surfing every day not only invigorates him, but makes him healthier. And happier. For me, I'm going to use what I've learned in this book to get an hour or more of exercise in daily, then about 15 min in the whirlpool! All of which makes me healthier and happier with more energy.

The first few chapters focus on you and your goals. A core metric is your EHR, Estimate Hourly Rate is part of your assessment and important to charting your progress.

He talks about them importance of having a team and how easy it is to offload tasks to others, so that you can work on the things that increase your EHR.

"Success isn't being at the beach with your laptop. Success is being at the beach with your surfboard."

Re-charge your batteries. Get more sleep. James shows us how. And why.

The he shares the practical advice of the Profit Formula and the importance of Customer Lifetime Value.

And finally, the importance of removing compromise from your life, which I found to be extremely profound.

He has a very attractive challenge for us "I dare you to set something you LOVE as the thing you do every day. And then I dare you to build your business to cater for it. Why? Because if you're not doing something you love, you're not actually living."

This book will help you rise faster and live a better life!
