Q What has two eyes (usually), a practice sword, and no clue?
A A noob. And a horde of them are coming to ruin Devon's day.
Freshly returned from the underworld, Devon Walker has a major task ahead. A demon army is coming, and she must prepare Stonehaven for war. But no amount of fortification will allow the small settlement to hold against the coming horde. - I've been following Stonehaven for a long time now, and the conclusion of the first arc seems
Fitting.
I like how the characters feel like people, with dimensions. They're not flat charicatures, two dimensional stands. And they are reacting like real people.
The reaction of the NPCs to the arrival of the horde of newbs was amusing, as was the happenstance of how events seemed to tangle together. Especially when considering we got a viewpoint from a newviest of newbs who had never played anything similar before.
My only complaint is that the main plot seemed to happen in only a small portion of the book, but focusing on developing characters and laying groundwork for what to do after the Main Quest was finished is.important if you intend to continue the series, and I hope the author does
I can't wait for more adventures, even if I disappeared from the Stonehaven RP on Facebook. Sorry for no more campfire stories, guys! - Great continuation for the series. Devon is shy and troubled in IRL but a good person. Playing let's her open up and allow her tough and generous self to come out. This is good for Stonehaven and all its inhabitants as the Horde is coming. Dev must finish finding the keys to take over the region. To help her, old and new friends join her online.
I enjoyed this book. It was less battle intensive then some of the others in the series but pulled more arcs together and set the tone for a larger world story. Looking forward to more. - I'm always thrilled to dive back into the Stonehaven League books. Devon is a fun character--someone who isn't always sure of herself, but honestly does her best. Seeing her friendships with Tamara and Hailey deepen feels earned. The way Emerson's character developed as he created an online persona was both hilarious and a little sad--just because he tries so hard to have things not work out the way he expected. I'm looking forward to reading more installments.
- Given that I respect character growth, and the primary character Devon often appears to be a bumbling incompetent that succeeds in spite of herself, rating this a 2 was a very real possibility. I doubt I'll be following this tale any further - the story has devolved into GameLit with many subplots left incomplete. It's a good point to leave these 5 far too short and too pricey books behind...
- Great development of the story and exploration of plot threads that had been left unaddressed. It further developed the world and continued to build on points introduced previously in the series.
We start to see some of the end game of some of the beginning story arcs in this book and continues to escalate the stakes without having them seem unreasonable. New mechanics are introduced well and fit in with the timing of the plot.
This series remains among my favorites within the genre and introduces new plot hooks for ever one it concludes, or begins to conclude. I eagerly await the next book. - This book continues with excellent character development and the plot is a lot of fun. It wraps up what appears to have been the first major story arc and laid the groundwork for even greater adventures. I can't wait for the next in the series.
- Seriously this series really gets better and better with each book and love the surprises that the author scatters throughout the book. So looking forward to the next one!
- While it might seem that this would be a major plot, it honestly felt like a place holder book. A set up for the next plot point. Tom out
